Lagos judiciary adopts online platform for general affidavits

 

Beginning June 1, 2025, all General Affidavits in Lagos State—including those for change of name, loss of SIM, declaration of age, and similar purposes—must be processed exclusively through the LagosComis online platform.

This was made known in a circular signed by the Deputy Chief Registrar (Admin), Ikeja,  Rasaq O. Davies, acting on the directive of the Honourable Chief Judge of Lagos State.

According to the notice, which was made available to PUNCH Online on Wednesday, the new directive does not apply to affidavits used for litigation purposes at the High Court. It specifically targets non-litigation affidavits commonly used for official documentation, banking, telecommunications, and other administrative processes.

The statement partly read, “I have the directive of the Honourable Chief Judge of Lagos State to inform you that effective from 1st of June 2025, all General Affidavits (Affidavits for Change of Name, loss of SIM, Declaration of Age,etc), excluding affidavits used for litigation at the High Court shall be generated exclusively through the LagosComis Platform, (http://lagoscomis.lagosjudiciary.gov.ng).

To facilitate the transition, the judiciary has also made available guidelines on how to use the e-Affidavit system on the LagosComis website.

“Guidelines on how to use the E-Affidavits are available on the LagosComis website”, the statement concluded.

The move is part of the state judiciary’s continued effort to enhance digital service delivery, improve transparency, and reduce delays in affidavit processing.

The LagosComis platform, which already hosts several court services, is expected to streamline affidavit issuance and make the process more accessible to the public.
