Orange Digital Ventures invests into SVOD service, Afrostream

Orange Digital Ventures, a corporate venture capital that does early stage investments has announced it has invested into Afrostream, a subscription video on demand (SVOD) service chiefly offering African, African-American and African-Caribbean films and television series.


The funds will enable Afrostream accelerate the development of its original and innovative offering in Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and South America.

The investment will also enable Afrostream to leverage Orange’s expertise in networks, distribution and payment in Africa as well as European countries with large population of Africans to fast-track its development.

Afrostream’s unlimited SVOD streaming service, which features family-themed programming such as cartoons, concerts, and documentaries as well as films and TV series, is already being enjoyed in all connected screens in France, Luxembourg, Senegal, Belgium, Switzerland and Ivory Coast.

Also participating in the investment round is TheFamily, Ace & Company and newly-founded Cross Culture Ventures.

In a press release made available to TechLoy, Deputy CEO of Orange and President of Orange Digital Ventures, Pierre Loutte said, “This investment is part of ODV’s ambition to finance services that are able to address different geographical areas in which Orange is present,”

He further said, “It will enable us to develop the video-on-demand market, particularly in Africa. It will also enable us to enrich the content we already offer to our customers in France, as Afrostream should be launched on Orange TV by next summer.”

Afrostream has been supported by Orange Fab France, the innovation arm of Orange and Y Combinator, a startup accelerator based in Silicon Valley.
